1. Removing Stubborn Stickers
To remove stubborn stickers or adhesive labels from surfaces like glass, metal, or plastic, spray a small amount of WD-40 directly onto the sticker. Allow it to penetrate for about 5 minutes so it can break down the adhesive bond. Then, gently peel the sticker away using your fingers or a plastic scraper to avoid scratching the surface.
WD-40 works here because it contains solvents and lubricants that dissolve the sticky residue without harsh scrubbing. This method prevents damage to delicate finishes that traditional scraping might cause.
- Do not use on paper or fabric surfaces, as it can cause staining or damage.
- Avoid using on painted walls unless tested on a small, hidden area first, as the solvent can affect paint.
2. Loosening Stuck Zippers
Apply a small amount of WD-40 to the teeth of a stuck zipper, especially where the zipper is jammed or difficult to move. Use a cotton swab or a soft cloth to target the lubricant precisely to the zipper teeth. After application, gently work the zipper back and forth to distribute the lubricant and free the mechanism.
The lubricant properties of WD-40 reduce friction and dissolve grime that causes the zipper to jam. This allows the zipper to slide smoothly without pulling or tearing the fabric.
- Avoid spraying directly onto delicate fabrics to prevent staining or damage.
- Do not use on plastic zippers that may react poorly to petroleum-based products.
