6. Soak removable parts
For removable toaster parts like crumb trays or racks, soaking them in warm water mixed with a splash of white vinegar for 10 to 15 minutes helps dissolve grease and loosen debris. This soaking softens buildup, making subsequent scrubbing more effective and less abrasive.
After soaking, use a soft sponge with baking soda to gently scrub the parts, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely.
Do not soak parts that have electrical components, plastic coatings, or finishes that manufacturer instructions advise against soaking.
7. Polish stainless steel finish
If your toaster has a stainless steel exterior, polishing it after cleaning restores its shine and helps resist fingerprints. Use a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with olive oil or baby oil, and wipe the surface following the grain of the steel.
This method buffing prevents streaks and leaves a protective layer that makes future cleaning easier. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or rough cloths that can scratch stainless steel.
Do not apply oil to plastic or painted parts, as it can cause smudging or attract dust.
8. Dry completely before use
After cleaning, it is crucial to dry the toaster and all its components thoroughly before plugging it back in. Moisture inside electrical appliances can cause short circuits, corrosion, or electrical shock.
Allow the toaster to air dry for at least 30 minutes in a warm, dry area or use a clean towel to remove visible moisture. Ensure crumb trays and removable parts are fully dry before reassembling.
Do not use heat sources like hair dryers or ovens to speed drying, as excessive heat can damage plastic or wiring.
