Knowing these 12 symptoms of a stroke can save your life

6. Difficulty Walking

Sudden onset of trouble walking, including weakness, numbness, or a feeling of instability in the legs, is a common stroke symptom. This impairment often reflects damage to motor pathways in the brain.

Patients may experience a limp, dragging one foot, or an inability to coordinate movements properly. Since walking difficulties increase fall risk and injury, immediate medical assessment is critical.

7. Facial Paralysis

Facial paralysis is one of the hallmark signs of stroke. It typically presents as sudden weakness or drooping on one side of the face. For example, when attempting to smile, one side of the mouth may not move.

This paralysis results from disruption of the facial nerve pathways in the brain. The common clinical test for this symptom involves asking the person to raise both arms or smile; an inability to perform these actions symmetrically is a red flag.

8. Headache

While headaches are a common complaint with many causes, a sudden, severe headache that is unlike any previous headache can indicate a hemorrhagic stroke. This type of headache is often described as the worst headache ever experienced.

Women are more likely than men to experience headache as a stroke symptom. If a severe headache occurs suddenly with other neurological changes, immediate emergency care is essential to diagnose and treat potential brain bleeding.
