HOW TO REMOVE SET-IN GREASE STAINS FROM LAUNDRY

Application and Soaking

Apply a small amount of dishwashing foam directly onto each grease stain—generally a pea-sized drop is enough for a typical shirt stain. Gently work it into the fabric with your fingertips, ensuring full coverage of the stained area without aggressive rubbing that could damage fibers.

Allow the foam to sit on the stain for about five minutes. This soaking period gives the surfactants time to penetrate the grease, emulsify the oils, and loosen them from the fabric.

Longer soaking times are not necessary and can sometimes cause color bleeding or fiber weakening, especially on delicate fabrics. Avoid soaking the entire garment unless the care label explicitly allows it.

  • Use just enough product to cover the stain without saturating the fabric.
  • Keep soaking times short—around five minutes—to balance cleaning with fabric safety.
  • Spot test on an inconspicuous area before applying to delicate or unknown fabrics.

Washing Techniques

After pre-treating, wash the garment according to the fabric’s care instructions. Cold or warm water cycles are preferable because hot water can set grease stains further. Use your regular laundry detergent alongside the pre-treatment.

For best results, choose detergents designed for cold water or stain removal to complement the dish foam’s effect. Avoid fabric softeners or dryer sheets as they can leave residues that repel water and trap oils.

Once washed, inspect the garment before drying. If the stain persists, repeat the treatment rather than drying, since heat solidifies grease stains.

  • Wash promptly after treatment to prevent grease from redepositing.
  • Use the gentle cycle for delicate fabrics to prevent wear.
  • Do not machine dry until stains are fully removed.
