5 Tips to Clean and Bleach Your Towels Naturally

1. Use white vinegar

White vinegar is a powerful natural disinfectant and deodorizer that can restore your towels’ freshness without the use of harsh chemicals. It eliminates bad odors caused by bacteria and body oils trapped in the fabric, while also softening the fibers to improve absorbency.

To use white vinegar effectively, add one cup of it directly into the washing machine drum during the rinse cycle, skipping detergent to avoid residue buildup. For a deeper clean, you can pre-soak your towels in hot water mixed with a cup of vinegar for about 30 minutes before washing. This helps break down soap scum and mineral deposits that dull towel whiteness.

2. Use baking soda

Baking soda is excellent for neutralizing odors, removing stains, and eliminating detergent residues that accumulate over time and reduce towel softness. It works well either alongside white vinegar or on its own in a separate wash cycle.

For best results, add half a cup of baking soda into the washing machine drum and run the machine on a hot water cycle. Baking soda’s alkaline nature helps to lift grime and refresh fibers, leaving towels smelling clean and feeling soft. If stains persist, baking soda can act as a gentle abrasive to aid removal without damaging the fabric.
