1. Spot Treatment for Breakouts
For a quick spot treatment targeting occasional pimples, crush 1 to 2 uncoated aspirin tablets into a fine powder. Mix this powder with just a few drops of water to create a thick paste. Apply a thin layer directly onto the blemish using a clean cotton swab or fingertip, and leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off gently with lukewarm water.
This method leverages aspirin’s acetylsalicylic acid, chemically related to salicylic acid, which is well-known for its ability to exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce inflammation. By applying this paste, some users observe a temporary reduction in redness and swelling, as it may help unclog pores and calm irritated skin.
Avoid using this treatment on broken or highly sensitive skin, as it can cause irritation or dryness. Also, do not use coated aspirin tablets, since the coatings often contain additives that are not suitable for topical use.
2. Soothing Insect Bites
To alleviate the itching and redness from insect bites, dissolve 1 to 2 crushed uncoated aspirin tablets in a small amount of warm water to form a diluted paste. Using a cotton ball, apply this mixture gently onto the affected area. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until it dries, then rinse off if desired.
The anti-inflammatory properties of acetylsalicylic acid may provide temporary relief from itching and swelling. This is why some find aspirin paste soothing on minor skin irritations caused by bug bites.
This treatment should not be applied to open wounds, broken skin, or large areas of irritation. If symptoms persist or worsen after application, discontinue use and consider professional evaluation.
