3. Persistent itching or redness

Itching or redness of the breast skin that does not resolve within a few weeks could signal a serious condition known as inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Although rare, accounting for a small percentage of breast cancer cases, IBC is aggressive and often mistaken for infection or dermatitis.

Symptoms of IBC include persistent warmth, swelling, and redness affecting a large portion of the breast. Unlike typical skin irritation, these changes worsen over time and do not respond to standard skin treatments.

Any new mass detected in the breast warrants medical evaluation, regardless of whether it causes pain.

5. Persistent breast or nipple pain

While breast pain is common and often benign, persistent pain localized to one area of the breast or nipple, especially if unrelated to the menstrual cycle, should not be ignored. This pain may be a sign of a tumor causing inflammation or pressure on surrounding tissues.

In some cases, breast cancer may present without a palpable lump but with symptoms such as swelling, a feeling of fullness, or discomfort.
